Fri September 3 - THE BEDROOM PHILOSOPHER FRI 3 SEPT

currently the only Australian artist crossing over between the music and comedy scenes

$15 inc. booking fee Standing room 8.30pm
$50 inc. booking fee dinner and show 6.30pm
$17 Door
Wit-hot maverick The Bedroom Philosopher owns the genre-clash of blazin'
humourist and rock-steady musician – currently the only Australian
artist crossing over between the music and comedy scenes. He found
himself dancing on the tables of the music industry in 2002 with a
regular segment on JJJ's Morning Show. His lo-fi idiosyncrasies
resonated so much with their audience that when he released his debut
album In Bed With My Doona in 2005, he took pride in placing 70th in the
Hottest 100 with his ode to absurdity, 'I'm So Postmodern'.
In the lead-up to his third studio album Songs From The 86 Tram (set for
release April 2 through Shock), The Bedroom Philosopher has unleashed
new single Northcote (So Hungover), the follow up to previous single
Tram Inspector (Inpress Single Of The Week – Dec 09).
Already on high rotation on triple J, new track Northcote (So Hungover)
is a searing slice of scenester satire, and possibly the first time
someone has dared attempt to capture the 'nu Australian' accent. From
beneath the safety of a long fringe, our antagonist protagonist 'uh's'
and 'yeah's' his way through the exploits of his band, giving you the
intimacy of an overheard conversation in the comfort of your own phones.
The Bedroom Philosopher may have achieved the perfect blend between
humour and music, his tighter-than-your-jeans band of hipster slayers
The Awkwardstra, laying down a surefire shoegaze rock bed, the
relentless 4/4 chug, driving the song forward on a one way route to
cooltown. Finally, a playful point is struck against the Vice magazine
army of Gen-Y fashionistas that hide behind trash fashion and fixed gear
aloofness.
Northcote (So Hungover) follows in the footsteps of The Bedroom
Philosopher’s 2005 hits I’m So Postmodern, Folkstar and Golden Gaytime,
his ironic quick-wit comedy finding a cozy niche on Triple J and
community radio Australia wide. Shows everywhere from The Melbourne
International Comedy Festival to the Big Day Out are augmented by The
Bedroom Philosopher’s (aka Justin Heazlewood) position as senior writer
for national mag Frankie, his regular sketch comedy show on Triple R
‘Lime Champions’, and even a recent stint as a young John Safran on
‘Race Relations’.
With his new album Songs From The 86 Tram The Bedroom Philosopher has
levelled the playing field as every demographic gets their turn; from
Aussie hip-hop wannabees to bogans to backpackers, the middle aged and
the elderly. The album has been sculpted from his award-winning 2009
Comedy Festival show of the same name, and was created with the help of
producer Chris Scallan (Avalanches, Akon, Baz Luhmann's Australia),
Harry Angus on brass, as well as his smokin' hot band The Awkwardstra.

Sat September 4 - DIANA ANAID & MONIQUE BRUMBY LOVE IS A WEAPON NATIONAL TOUR SAT 4 SEPT

DIANA ANAID & MONIQUE BRUMBY LOVE IS A WEAPON NATIONAL TOUR
$18 inc. booking fee standing room 8.30pm
$53 inc. booking fee dinner and show 6.30pm
Australian singer/songwriters Diana Anaid & Monique Brumby are artists who have seen it all in the music industry. Having toured together in 2001, they struck up a friendship that sees them re-unite this year for their Love Is A Weapon Tour performing intimate acoustic shows that will engage audiences with new songs and quirky live collaboration. Both Brumby & Anaid released their debut albums in 1997, both have record label and life experiences that make for great bed time stories for over 18's as well as entertaining song writing and live performance banter. Both have forged careers in the cut-throat world of the music industry and by a strange yet synchronistic twist of fate both women have just released their 4th studio albums. Fittingly they are touring nationally playing a string of double headline performances across Australia in August 2010.
Diana Anaid is a 5 x ARIA nominated artist and has earned a reputation for being a voice for the tongue-tied & disenchanted members of society, gaining a loyal following through her honest, heartfelt songs and energetic live shows.
Diana will be returning to the US to perform at legendary LA clubs The Viper Room & House Of Blues later in ’10 but will first be touring the country in intimate, solo and acoustic mode to coincide with the release of her next single, the crowd favourite Black Rainbow.
Monique Brumby's many experiences fuelled the fire for Monique’s new work including the death of a close friend, exploration of her ancestry and the constant questioning of the human condition. Monique will be bringing with her all the skill and craftsmanship she has learnt throughout her career to deliver what are sure to be deeply moving, engaging and passionate performances on her forthcoming tour with Diana Anaid.

Fri September 10 - THE YEARLINGS ALBUM LAUNCH FRI 10 SEPTEMBER

Friday 10 September
“Utterly charming and horribly irresistible.” Tom Jellett, Weekend Australian
album launch for their new record Sweet Runaway
$18 inc. booking fee standing room 8.30pm
$53 inc. booking fee dinner and show 6.30pm
Support- Heath Cullen
Roots/alt. country duo The Yearlings combine warm boy-girl harmonies, delicate flat-picking and sparse country blues to create songs that are at once haunting and soothing.
Marking the advent of Spring and bound to bring a bit of extra brightness and joy to your ears, Adelaide roots/alt country duo The Yearlings will be touring Australia to coincide with the release of their fourth studio album Sweet Runaway (out on Mixmasters via Vitamin Records) on 9th of August.
The Yearlings consist of Robyn Chalklen (vocals/guitar) and Chris Parkinson (vocals/guitar & banjo), who have been writing and performing together for nine years, since first crossing paths at The Tamworth Country Music Festival. Their chemistry is remarkable, and like a fine wine, their musical competency has matured impressively on the vine. They have a command to their musical compositions that most outfits can merely yearn for.
Together Robyn and Chris combine a sunset voice and a heart wood guitar to make a river of sound that winds its way past the hustle and flows back into the good old country of this land. Softer'n a rabbit sheltrin in a holler, sweet harmonies and rich tremolo electric guitar, aged. Old. Just the right amount of haunting. The Yearlings songs rock, sad and slow . . . like a chair on an old wooden porch. Personal, soul-stirring lyricists, watching them live is like eavesdropping on an intimate conversation.
Catch them as they tour the country performing songs off Sweet Runaway

“Even us skeptics'll swear they've been in the presence of the harmony angels - make every day a Friday” Songcatcher, Radio Adelaide.

The Fridays comment on the things that make you smile, the things that make you cry and the things that make you laugh so hard you wet your pants! These girls’ particular brand of acoustic folk rock music blends gutsy guitar riffs, sweet harmonies and tunes full of humour with their ‘no bullshit’ attitude to life, love and beer.
Fronted by Kimberly McKenzie and Kelly Breuer, ‘The Fridays’ have recently played at Feast Festivals ‘Picnic in the Park’, Adelaide’s Fringe and Fuse Festivals and are gearing up to release their debut EP September 2010.
The girls met randomly among music circles in Adelaide in early 2008 and felt an instant connection and mutual respect for one another, finding inspiration from Bonnie Raitt, The Waifs, Ani DiFranco, The Indigo Girls, Cold Chisel and Fruit to name a few .
The Fridays, now armed with full back line have recently graced the stages of The Gov, The Crown and Anchor, The Wheatsheaf Hotel and The Grace Emily and have taken their music regionally to extremely receptive audiences and have been bombarding the airwaves and print media with their witty comments and the all too often question , “What’s next for The Fridays?”
“We want to take over the world…just kidding, only portions of it – bite sized portions with gravy”. Rip it Up
And so The Fridays continue to fill rooms around Adelaide and have their sites set interstate. These girls are well on their way to wowing audiences around the country and look forward to promoting their philosophy of ‘No Bullshit, More Beer’.
